Aqueous fractionation technique separates algae for biofuel conversion

Through years of ongoing research and development, Solution Recovery Services developed a transformational, patent-pending technology, which increases algal lipid yields significantly, recovering more than 90 percent of both vacuole held and membrane bound lipids.

Traditional oil extraction methods have proven to be inefficient or costly with algae, limiting the economic viability of large-scale commercial extraction. The revolutionary SRS process is an aqueous fractionation technique, which separates algae into the lipid, carbohydrate and protein blocks, and then offers conversion to biocrude, esters, alcohol and/or methane while isolating other valued fractions.

SRS is able to support clients who do not have their own extraction facilities by offering Toll Processing of Algae in the SRS Extraction Plant in Dexter, Mich. Full-time operators, process engineers and scientists, who have a broad range of process equipment options to ensure a successful extraction of oil from various algae types, staff the company's processing facility.
